Greg Cooper - The Jukes

photos by Dore Rabinoff purloined from Greg Cooper's website

Guitar man Greg Cooper and his band The Jukes have gigged at the late John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room, which has got to be some consolation after the Grant & Green closed down, depriving them of a regular weekly slot in North Beach. The Jukes also feature the extraordinarily well dressed Jaimie Faifua, a Grant Street regular, on harmonica. Greg's here by way of Maryland and L.A.; he gives lessons and authors guitar instruction books to help keep the table set.

from Greg on August 9, 2002 (links added),

I've been playing blues in San Francisco for the last 8 years, having worked in clubs such as The Blue Lamp (every Wednesday for a year and a half with The Blue Reptiles 1996-98), The Boom Boom Room (James Faifua and the Jukes 00-01) Grant and Green house gig every Monday (1998-00) Biscuits and Blues (Midnight Movers) and numerous gigs throughout the East Bay. My book is now published ("Melodic Lines for the Jazz and Blues Guitarist") and is distributed by Hal Leonard. Recently I just got back from LA where I taught at the National Guitar Workshop, quite a privilege.
Please be aware of the Homebrewers Festival in Napa on Sept. 21. I have hired Ernest Carter and Henry Oden for the rhythm section, I' m also hoping to get my friend Paul Kallestead up on Hammond (Walter Trout's band), we'll see.
Incidentally The Jukes had a great gig at The Saloon on Aug. 3rd , we had Willie Riser and Rick Sankey in our rhythm section (two old buddies from Chicago). They don't get to play together often.
...If you want to include I've worked with Merry Clayton, Bill Medley (from the Righteous Brothers), Joe Sample (Crusaders) and Steve Tyrell. That would be great. Also from 1982-94 I played 6 nights a week, every week from Anchorage to San Diego and LA to Scranton PA. ...Oh yeah, I played Mission Rock for a couple of years every Saturday before it became yuppiefied, and my Mom thinks I'm the greatest too.
